This unique internship offers Online Training (NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Championing Sustainability in the Workplace) with Professional Placement program in the Red Sea providing hands-on experience in sustainability challenges and contributing to meaningful environmental projects through the Nature Conservation Internship at RED SEA PROJECT™.

Who can apply:

UK Passport holders
a Home (UK), EU or international student, and studying an undergraduate, postgraduate taught or postgraduate research degree in UK universities for the academic year 2024/2025.
Applicants MUST be current undergraduate students or recent graduates (BSc or Master's) in fields such as Zoology, Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Management, Agriculture, or Natural Sciences.
Fully vaccinated persons. If accepted into the program you must provide a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination record.
Each applicant must have a letter of reference from at least one previous or current professor, supervisor, employer, or other non family-related individual who you have worked or studied with for a significant period of time. This person should be able to speak about previous experiences and personal characteristics that make you a strong candidate for the internship.

Additionally, priority of enhanced funding will be given to:

- Students with low household income or low socio-economic status (including those with an annual household income of £25,000 or less)

-Candidates in receipt of Universal Credit or income-related benefits

-Care leavers

-Candidates with care responsibilities

- home students of Black heritage, including:

Black - African
Black - Caribbean
Black - Other
Mixed - White and Black African
Mixed - White and Black Caribbean
Other mixed background - including Black African, Black Caribbean or Other Black background

- students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting themselves or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them and living with them, such as a child or partner

- Estranged students (where neither of the students’ parents can be found or it is not reasonably practicable to get in touch with either of them)

Program Overview:

Part 1: Online Training

Course: NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Championing Sustainability in the Workplace
Duration: 3-month online program.
Funded: £ 789 (payable through an advanced learner loan). You will need to complete an application of eligibility.

This qualification consists of 7 mandatory units and 4 optional units (2 optional units must be completed).

Participants meeting the entry requirements will be invited for an online interview, and those who are successful will need to complete the necessary paperwork for RED SEA PROJECT™ and undergo an eligibility check, with support provided throughout the process. A valid passport and proof of residency will be required. This course is a crucial step in preparing for a hands-on experience in the field of sustainability.

Part 2: Fully Funded Professional Placements

Nature Conservation Internship

During this training program, you will have an exciting chance to contribute to the preservation of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems in the Red Sea as a valuable member of the RED SEA PROJECT™ Research Team.

As part of your role, you will receive comprehensive training in identifying desert plants, as well as marine wildlife including turtles, fish, corals, and various invertebrates. This knowledge will enable you to actively participate in conservation efforts within these ecosystems. In addition, you will learn about coral baseline surveying, a crucial skill in marine conservation. This globally accepted approach will equip you with the ability to assess and monitor the condition of megafauna and marine ecosystems.One of the valuable aspects of this training program is the opportunity to work closely with local experts in an educational environment.

This collaborative experience will enhance your understanding of the region's unique ecosystems, as well as the challenges and best practices in conserving them. By engaging with these experts, you will gain practical knowledge and valuable insights into the conservation efforts specific to the Red Sea.

Overall, this training program offers a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience, allowing you to make a tangible impact on the conservation of the Red Sea's marine and terrestrial environments. It is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, broaden your knowledge, and contribute to the ongoing efforts in safeguarding these precious ecosystems.. You'll be part of our Research Team, working on marine and terrestrial conservation efforts while receiving training in:

Safety at work, Emergency First Response, Primary and Secondary Care CPR and Emergency Oxygen Provider Training.

Entry Requirements

Participants need to be 18 years or over, with a good level of fitness and agility to participate in this program.
Participants should be comfortable in the water as surveys include snorkelling and freediving.
Participants must complete the RED SEA PROJECT™ paperwork and agree to terms and conditions.
Participants will be required to attend a video call interview if selected.
Participants will be required to provide a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination record.
Participants flights, food and board will be funded by the programme.
Participants agree to provide their own snorkelling equipment and underwater camera or rent them locally.
